LOS ALAMOS, N.M., Jan. 3, 2000 -- The Department of Energy's Los Alamos Neutron Science Center is holding its fourth annual LANSCE User Group Meeting Jan. 23 through 25 at the Courtyard by Marriott in Santa Fe.

The three-day meeting is open to the general public. The goal of the meeting is to promote collaboration among researchers in the many science fields that rely on neutron science. Discussion topics will focus on basic, defense-related and industrial research in materials science, condensed-matter physics, engineering, nuclear technology and nuclear and particle physics.

The LUG meeting also will provide current and potential users of Los Alamos' Manuel Lujan Jr. Neutron Scattering Center with an update on instrumentation upgrades at the facility that will enhance researchers' scientific output. The Lujan center is a DOE national user facility that attracts hundreds of researchers worldwide annually.

The LUG will present two awards during the meeting. The 17th Louis Rosen Prize will be awarded for outstanding doctorate or master's thesis based on experimental or theoretical research performed at LANSCE. The first-ever LANSCE Director's Award for Scientific Excellence will recognize a LANSCE staff scientist's demonstrated scientific excellence and leadership.

Complete information on the meeting, including the registration process, agendas and local accommodations, is online at http://lansce.lanl.gov/AnnualMtg4.html. Or call (505) 665-1010.
