Start Work

First Quarter at the Laboratory

Day Three

arrivalEmployees with an active L or Q Clearance whose clearance is being transferred from one company to another (i.e. Comforce to LANL) must visit the S-6 Clearance Processing Office (Otowi Building south side) after 9:30 am before receiving badge. If you are required to take GET training, visit Clearance Processing Office on Day 3.

  • Obtain permanent badge from the Badge Office in the Otowi Building (Photo ID is required). Employees who already have a clearance will get a cleared badge. Un-cleared employees will get an un-cleared badge. No badge will be issued prior to hiring.
  • Report to work site.
  • Employees who have submitted the QNSP package for a new Q or L clearance must make an appointment with Debbie Vigil (7-8739) to have their paperwork reviewed.
  • Employees who are reinstating previous Q or L clearances must call 7-0641 to make an appointment to have their paperwork reviewed.
  • Foreign Nationals: Must visit Immigration Services (Otowi Building) and the Payroll Office to complete your Statement of Citizenship and W-4 Form (TRK Building).
  • You may be escorted to CCN to pick up your cryptocard or it will be mailed.

First Week

  • Expect to meet with your supervisor to discuss your work plan, IPOs, phone and computer usage, safety, orientation, probation period, etc.
  • Complete all online tests and the minimal required training for all employees (pdf). The required courses and testing will vary with the job. Ask your supervisor to provide you with a complete list of all required training.

Within 31 Days

  • Physicals are set up with Occupational Medicine (HSR-2) and are conducted one to two weeks after hire. Please call 505-667-7848 if you have any questions.
  • Complete enrollment of Benefits Packet Within 31 Days from Start Date (if applicable)
  • Visit the Travel Office for Travel/ Relocation Reimbursement (if applicable). Travel is located in the CFO-1 Group, located at the TRK building, suite 103, 195 East Road, MS P234

First Quarter

  • By the end of the 1st Quarter you should have clear direction of your performance goals from your manager.
  • If you are working in a "cleared" only environment you may be experiencing some frustration. This is a good time to take additional classes and training that will help you at your job.
