Education Assistance Program

Laboratory employees may be eligible for education assistance if they meet certain eligibility guidelines.

Education assistance is available for:

  • degree and non-degree classes
  • continuing education
  • professional development
  • certification courses taken at accredited post-secondary educational institutions

All education assistance is paid for by the employee's organization.

LANL policy: Education Assistance — P782-1 (pdf).

Accreditation

The Laboratory provides education assistance only for courses taken through institutions with appropriate accreditation. Accrediting organizations must be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

Visit the CHEA website to determine appropriate accreditation of the school you are considering attending.

Application process

  1. Before course enrollment, fill out Form 896 — Application for Education Assistance (pdf), and obtain group manager approval.
  2. Retain Form 896 until you have completed the course.
  3. Upon successful completion of the education course, send Form 896, a grade report or certificate of completion (whichever is applicable), and the original receipts for tuition and books to tuitionassistance@lanl.gov.

Note: Employees must submit the completed Form 896 no later than three months after completion of the course. Requests submitted more than three months after course completion will not be processed.
