General Concerns About Changing Medical Plans

Will My Doctor(s) Participate?

During the bidding process, the Benefits Office ran network disruption reports to determine what impact changing carriers would have for our retirees. Although some individuals may have to choose a new doctor, the analysis shows that Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico offers a network with minimal disruption from our current United Healthcare network; and, nationally, a more robust network overall.

You should verify that your doctor and preferred local facility accepts Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico. Please contact member services, or search on-line for participating network providers.

Note: in cases of a true medical emergency, services will be treated as in-network by all Laboratory medical plans.

Transition of Care

Individuals changing plans while in the middle of care will need to contact Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico to facilitate transition of care to the new plan from United Healthcare or Anthem Blue Cross.

OnSite Claims Advocate

Laboratory employees have enjoyed the convenience of a United Healthcare on-site claims advocate since 2008. Syd Peavy will be the dedicated claims advocate with Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico. Syd will be happy to assist you directly with any claims or medical benefit coverage issues.
