Your Behavioral Health Insurance Plan

About Your Behavioral Health Insurance Plan

BlueCross BlueShield of New Mexico is able to help LANL employees and retirees identify and benefit from the mental health and substance abuse services they need, through our network of providers, programs and facilities. To select an independently contracted and licensed behavioral health professional or physician in your area, use the Provider Finder® by visiting bcbsnm.com and selecting Find a Doctor, or you can call the number on the back of your member ID card (888) 898-0070.

Many health issues involve some combination of physical, mental and social causes. Treating behavioral health and medical conditions at the same time offers the best way to take care of your overall health care needs. As part of Blue Care Connection® (BCC), the Behavioral Health program can help you better manage your health and stay healthy – mentally and physically. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) members have access to a full range of behavioral health care services, including:

  • Inpatient, partial hospitalization and outpatient behavioral health care management
  • 24-hour referral assistance
  • Support to help with behavioral disorders, such as anxiety, depression and eating disorders
  • Referrals to other BCC medical care management programs

Eligibility

Any employee or retiree enrolled in the BlueCross Blue Shield of New Mexico EPO, PPO and CDHP Plans are eligible for Behavioral Health benefits. Members enrolled in the National Medicare Supplement Plan are not required to use the BCBSNM Network or Behavioral Health Providers, but will be required to utilize a Medicare Provider for services in order to obtain the maximum benefit for Behavioral Health Services.

Cost

Your costs will be based on the BCBSNM plan you have chosen, please refer to your Benefit Summary for details.

Requesting Services

You are required to request preauthorization from BCBSNM for all behavioral health services before an inpatient/partial hospitalization admission. Requesting preauthorization before all behavioral health services gives BCBSNM the chance to help you get the most from your health plan benefits. To ask for preauthorization for behavioral health services, call the number on the back of your member ID card (888) 898-0070.

On-going services through the transition of plans

If you are currently seeing a therapist, you have two options for remaining with that provider:

  • When your current therapist is already a BCBSNM provider.
You will be able to continue to see the same provider as you currently are, we encourage you to call the number on the back of your card to insure your continued care will not be interrupted.
  • When your therapist is not a BCBSNM provider.
You may continue to see your provider as part of your out-of-network benefits if you have the PPO or CDHP plan options. If you are enrolled in the EPO plan, BCBSNM will handle your case individually based on your clinical needs, or find a contracted provider for your care. Please contact our Behavioral Health Unit by calling the number on the back of your card.
