Lab Pushes Frontiers in Science, Safety, Security, Business, Community
LANL makes significant advances in safeguarding the U.S. nuclear deterrent and pushing the frontiers of science on multiple fronts—including a new airport threat detector, the fastest supercomputer, mission-critical support for NASA, effective research for solar energy, superconductors, HIV, and more efficient biofuels.
Roadrunner Supercomputer more than twice as fast as previous record holder
The "Roadrunner" supercomputer exceeded a sustained speed of 1 petaflop/s, or 1 million billion calculations per second. The sustained performance makes Roadrunner more than twice as fast as the current number 1 system on the TOP500 list.
