Definitions (pg. 1 of 2)

The following definitions apply to IPP 732.0 Substance Abuse.

Being Under the Influence of Drugs - having a sufficient amount of drug(s) in the body to test positive at levels defined in 49 CFR 40 Procedures for Transportation Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs.

Controlled Substances - substances defined in Schedules I through V of the Controlled Substances Act, 21 United States Code Section 812, and by 21 Code of Federal Regulations Section 1308.

Illegal Drug - Defined in Schedules I through V of the Controlled Substances Act, 21 United States Code Section 812, and by 21 CFR 1308. The term does not apply to the use of a controlled substance in accordance with terms of a valid prescription, or other uses authorized by law.

LANL Employees - workers employed by LANS and assigned to perform work for LANL as their primary duty. LANL employee categories are designated as:

  • regular
  • limited-term
  • casual
  • parent company transfer
  • postdoc (includes distinguished postdoc)
  • graduate research assistant (includes post master and post baccalaureate)
  • undergraduate student
  • high school co-op
  • laboratory associate (includes retired fellow)
