Alcohol Testing

Pre-employment and random testing programs DO NOT include alcohol testing.

HOWEVER... alcohol testing may be conducted when determined to be appropriate by Occupational Medicine or SEC-PSS6. Testing may be conducted when there is reasonable suspicion or following an incident that results in or has the potential to result in a serious injury.

Breathalizer

How is alcohol testing administered?

A breathalyzer test is given to the individual.

A breath test is analyzed using a federally approved breath alcohol device. Any alcohol level detected at or above 0.02 g/210L will result in a Fitness for Duty evaluation. An alcohol level at or above 0.08 g/210L will be referred to Human Resources-Employee Relations (HR-ER) for discipline.

Workers in federaly mandated programs such as Human Reliability Program and Department of Transportation will be referred to HR-ER for any alcohol level at or above 0.02 g/210L.
