Probabilistic Quantum Computation and Quantum Simulation of Many-Body Physics with Ultracold Atoms

Abstract

In the first part of my talk, I will show to do efficient quantum computation with probabilistic quantum gates. Such gates are relevant for several current experimental implementations. For this particular noise model, one can achieve fault tolerant computation with an error threshold up to 100%. For the second part, I will show how to simulate a class of many-body physics with resonantly interacting fermions in an optical lattice. I derive an effective Hamiltonian for fermions in an optical lattice across a Feshbach resonance. The Hamiltonian connects to some fundamental many-body models. It describes a lattice resonance between dressed molecules and atoms, and on different sides of such a resonance it reduces to either the t-J model for atoms or the XXZ model for the dressed molecules.
