Proposal and Grant Administration: About Us

In September 2005, the Chief Science Office (CSO) funded the creation of a team of grant specialists to "provide staff with improved services for the job of grant administration and management to assist in the growth of biosciences LANL-wide." The support for this team was moved from CSO to the Principal Associate Directorate for Science, Technology and Engineering (PADSTE) in FY07 and FY08. Starting in FY08, the team was relocated to the Sponsored Research Office in Technology Transfer Division (within PADSTE) to enhance visability and labwide access to PGA.

Goal

To be recognized by 1) the scientists, divisions, and other organizational components at LANL as a research support organization that actively facilitates the pursuit of sponsored research; and 2) by peer organizations nationwide as a national leader in providing research administration and management services that are both customer and compliance focused.

In support of the Laboratory’s research mission, the PGA team:

• Provides high quality services to investigators in collaboration with Program/Group and Budget (CFO) Offices to provide our research sponsors with proposals that showcase LANL’s capabilities and expertise by presenting information in a compliant, consistent, accurate, and professional manner;
• Reviews, approves (NIH/CDC only), and submits proposals and applications to sponsors: NIH, CDC, Grants.gov, FedConnect (non-DHS), DOE IIPS, UC Proposal Central, CDMRP, etc.;
• Negotiates final terms and conditions of NIH/CDC awards and informs investigators, divisions, SRO, CFO, and other staff as appropriate;
• Works with investigators on annual progress reports and other required reporting for NIH/CDC grants and contracts; and
• Anticipates issues that may arise and proactively works with investigators, divisions, and collaborating institutions to solve these issues.
