Radiochemistry User Facility

Facility Description

At the Radiochemistry User Facility, scientists carry out R&D programs in non-proliferation and counter-proliferation and environmental remediation and defense waste treatment. In this facility, users can perform ultra-sensitive measurements of actinides, all the while in close physical proximity to laboratories capable of handling multigram quantities of uranium or plutonium.

The facility provides

  • laboratories controlled for radiological purposes,
  • hot cells,
  • category IV nuclear material,
  • counting room facilities,
  • trace element analyzers,
  • inorganic and organic analysis capabilities,
  • storage vaults for nuclear material,
  • computers networked throughout the complex mechanical,
  • electronic support facilities, and
  • administrative controls.
