Amr Abdel-Fattah is a Technical Staff Member of the EES-6 Radionuclide Geochemistry Team. His main research interest is studying colloid behavior and interaction in microscopic and macroscopic scale systems and their implications in problems such as colloid-facilitated transport of contaminants, remediation of contaminated aquifers, disposal of radioactive wastes, and oil recovery.Amr’s expertise includes electrokinetic phenomena, colloid interactions at surfaces and interfaces under different physicochemical conditions and acoustic stimuli, micromixing phenomena, and colloid interactions and their role in porous fluid transport.He actively collaborates with various groups within LANL, at national and international research institutions and universities, and research groups.Amr is the inventor of the “Automated Video Microscopic Imaging and Data Acquisition System, AVMIDAS (U.S. Patent No. 6,836,559)- an advanced video-microscopic system for capturing the dynamics of colloid behavior at different interfaces.He is also the developer of DepKi- a suite of ALI (Analytical Language for Images) routines that automate image capturing, enhancement, processing and the extraction of key data relevant to colloid attachment and detachment at different interfaces. Target data are simultaneously extracted, tabulated in a spreadsheet, and graphically displayed on real time basis. Details of AVMIDAS and DepKi are embodied in U.S. Patent No. 6,836,559.
