TRU Waste Inventory - Repository Science (EES-12)

EES-12 manages the transuranic (TRU) waste inventory for the National TRU Program (NTP), providing crucial information for Waste Isolation Pilot Plant regulatory commitments and NTP strategic decision making. Knowledge of TRU waste inventory and the ability to analyze key waste criteria are fundamental throughout the waste disposal process, including in the development of packaging, transportation, and disposal strategies and in the allocation of resources.

EES-12 developed, qualified, and maintains the comprehensive inventory database, a Department of Energy (DOE) complex-wide TRU waste inventory database that tracks waste/changes in a software quality assurance-compliant manner. Additionally, EES-12 compiles TRU inventory data from around the DOE complex into an annual report that supports the work of the DOE Carlsbad Field Office and the NTP.

Additionally, EES-12 examines developments with regard to waste streams whose disposition paths are not clear and that may impact the TRU waste inventory. These include environmental impact statements/records of decision and developments related to classified and other materials that might become waste.
