About UsThe Los Alamos Postdoc Association (LAPA) has been formed to help postdocs with issues that are relevant to their time at Los Alamos National Laboratory. LAPA holds General Assembly meetings on the second Wednesday of each month, and social gatherings on the third Wednesday of the month. Other events are listed on the LAPA Event Calendar. Who is a member of LAPA?LAPA membership is open to all postdocs at LANL. If you are a postdoc, you are automatically a member of the LAPA General Assembly (GA). How does LAPA work?LAPA is governed by our bylaws, which were formulated by the Policy Committee and ratified at the GA Meeting held on September 13, 2006. We have a President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer, whose functions are outlined in the bylaws. There are also several committees which carry out additional LAPA functions. Committee descriptions can be found here. What's the difference between a GA member and a voting member? All postdocs are invited and welcome at the GA meetings, where official LAPA business is conducted. At the meetings, voting members vote on regular business items. Only voting members may run for office, but all GA members may vote for the executive officers. In order to become a voting member, simply attend one GA meeting. At the next meeting, you become a voting member. How can I get involved?Attend GA meetings, come to the socials, and join one of the committees. If you want to help, but the current committees don't fit your talents, contact the LAPA Secretary at secretary_lapa@lanl.gov. |
