Terms/Conditions

Apprenticeship training continues for 8,000 hours over a period of four years. This extent of reasonably continuous employment is normally required to attain craftsman proficiency in the machinist trade.

The apprentice signs an agreement with the Laboratory and agrees to diligently perform the work of the trade during the apprenticeship in accordance with the Standards of Apprenticeship. While rotating among assignments organized by major work processes, the apprentice receives a minimum of 144 hours of related instruction each year. The apprentice who successfully completes the program receives nationally recognized journeyman certification from the New Mexico State Apprenticeship Council.

LANL employs the apprentice on a limited-term basis during the apprenticeship but cannot guarantee employment after the training. Any longer-term employment offers LANL may make will be based on staffing needs.
