R&D focus on the use of conventional and unconventional fossil fuels, including associated environmental challenges
Los Alamos' efforts in fossil energy R&D focus on the use of conventional and unconventional fossil fuels, including associated environmental challenges. Maintaining a prosperous global economy and a healthy environment will require a diverse portfolio of energy solutions.
A Product of Partnership: Safire 2.0 Flow Meter
General Electric (GE) introduces the Safire topside multiphase flow meter - capable of accurately measuring oil flow and water cut while in the presence of up to 40% gas volume fraction (GVF) for oil well production.
Developed in partnership with Chevron Energy Technology Company and Los Alamos, the compact and economical design of the Safire meter combines patent and technology from GE and Los Alamos to measure total liquid flow, oil flow, and water cut. In recognition of this accomplishment, R&D Magazine recently recognized Safire as a 2014 R&D 100 winner, a prestigious award recognizing the top 100 technologies introduced into the marketplace over the past year.
