Los Alamos National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) owned by the Department of Energy (DOE) and operated by Los Alamos National Security, LLC, for DOE. As an FFRDC, Los Alamos may perform work for other than the DOE under the Economy Act, or other applicable legislation, when the work is not otherwise available from the private sector.

Los Alamos has an extensive and broad set of unique research and development capabilities in multiple scientific and engineering disciplines. Federal legislation promotes transfer of technologies from federal laboratories to nonfederal entities to leverage these capabilities and help US industry enhance its economic competitiveness in the global market while complementing Los Alamos’ mission.
