Frequently Asked Questions

Q.Why isn’t a school listed?

A. We will only list schools that are willing to have their information on the website. We will only put the information they want to list on this website as well.

Q. Are all the schools on the website licensed?

A. This website will only list facilities that are licensed by the State of New Mexico. However, there are other degrees of accreditation. Parents should ask about licensure and accreditation of each facility when visiting.

Q. Who was awarded the child care contract by LANL?

A. There is no child care contract for LANL to award. LANL is adopting a strategy of community expansion of child care.

Q. Is there a mailing list for the Child Care Initiative?

A. Yes, you can email us at dependantcare@lanl.gov and you will be added to the mailing list. The community will be updated regularly as the Child Care Initiative progresses.

Q. When will LANL’s child care center be open?

A. There are no plans for LANL to open a child care enter in the immediate future. LANL does not want to be in the child care business, and is actively working on a community expansion based approach to remedy the child care situation. However, if this approach doesn’t work, LANL will explore plans to open a child care center.

Q. Why doesn’t LANL just open the 2000 RFP?

A. LANL is committed to its employees and the community. The 2000 RFP would bring in a national chain to provide child care for the LANL community. The 2000 RFP was designed as a pilot program that did not support the existing child care community. It would not adequately solve today’s child care needs.

Q. Can I put my child on LANL’s waiting list?

A. Since LANL has no child care facility, we have no waiting list. Please contact a local provider.

Q. Who can attend classes sponsored by LANL at UNM-LA?

A. Anyone can attend the state mandated courses offered at UNM-LA. However, preference will be given to the staff of child care facilities. There is no charge for these classes.
