LANL DoD Program Director Message
Houston T. Hawkins
In
those horrible moments following the attacks on the World Trade Center
and the Pentagon, we all became combatants in the war against terrorism.
We were shown that our foes will be less predictable and the new battles
may be fought without the relative isolation we have historically enjoyed.
The struggle will be engaged on new battlefields possibly here and
certainly abroad, in distant mountains without names, in dusty streets
seemingly without end, on our laboratory benches as we develop technologies
for use in this struggle, and ultimately in our minds and hearts.
Our dedicated soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines who are executing
this battle are overwhelmingly powerful and capable. We at this Laboratory
are dedicated to enable them to be even more capable through our development
and their employment of high-leverage science toward more effective,
predictable, and reliable outcomes.
