Great people...great minds...where science begins

Theoretical Division covers many disciplines of theoretical science, including applied mathematics, chemistry, biology, engineering, and much of theoretical physics, ranging from fundamental issues to the modeling of complex systems. The division's work is a combination of basic research and applications, with each aiding the other in making progress. Theoretical results contribute to computer modeling, and the tests and applications that result from modeling help define new directions in basic research.

Mission

T-Divison's mission, is one that implicitly has an enduring need for science and technology beyond today's frontiers. We respond to this need in a multifaceted way by recruiting the best scientific minds and developing our capabilities to further scientific understanding of the physical world to establish a technical foundation for both current and future national security interests, and by fostering the exploration of interdisciplinary frontiers of scientific endeavors that address industrial and civilian needs.
