Health Physics Measurements (RP-2)

Our mission is to provide cost-effective, accurate, timely, and high quality health physics measurements, dosimetry and analysis for our valued Laboratory employees, visitors and external customers.

Our mission focus is to efficiently and effectively provide high-volume, routine health physics measurements, dosimetry, and analysis to maintain compliance with Department of Energy occupational radiation protection requirements (10 CFR 835) and also to maintain a high degree of Laboratory customer satisfaction.

Our mission focus also includes developing new and non-routine measurement and dosimetry capabilities and techniques to improve the quality and accuracy of the services which we provide. This part of our focus allows us to better provide institutional services consistent with evolving requirements and national and international standards.

Our current production measurement, dosimetry and analytical services include internal and external dosimetry (e.g., in-vivo and in-vitro bioassay analysis, dose assessment, external whole-body and extremity dosimetry, area monitoring, wound counting), associated radiation dosimetry records and reports, radioactive sample analysis (e.g., alpha, beta and gamma spectroscopy), radiation monitoring instrumentation maintenance, repair, and calibration (e.g., portable and fixed radiation monitoring instrumentation).

Our group also responds to requests from other Laboratory organizations and external customers seeking technical assistance in our areas of expertise (e.g., radioactive air monitoring, epidemiological research, instrumentation development, MCNP modeling, and more).
