United Healthcare outside the U.S. coverageFor those of you that are planning trips outside the United States, be aware that United Healthcare does not cover your medical expenses should you get injured or get sick. You must specifically request additional coverage and obtain a "rider" to your policy. I found that out the hard way when my wife was injured in Mexico. She paid the $400 emergency room charge thinking that we would be at least partially reimbursed by UHC later. No such luck. It was denied because the accident happened outside the U.S. Something to think about.
