Merging problems and speedThe safety problems caused by merging traffic exiting the Pajarito Road guard stations are simply the result of speed. The goal of many inconsiderate drivers is to attain 0-55 mph (or more) as soon as possible upon exiting the stations. This frequently results in unsafe passing as traffic moves back onto two-lane Pajarito Road because impatient drivers won't tolerate a smooth, safe acceleration.
The solution is to ease the speed limit up over a half-mile or so past the guard stations so at least there will be an enforcement mechanism to slow down those who have little regard for safety.
