The safety problems caused by merging traffic exiting the Pajarito Road guard stations are simply the result of speed. The goal of many inconsiderate drivers is to attain 0-55 mph (or more) as soon as possible upon exiting the stations. This frequently results in unsafe passing as traffic moves back onto two-lane Pajarito Road because impatient drivers won't tolerate a smooth, safe acceleration.

The solution is to ease the speed limit up over a half-mile or so past the guard stations so at least there will be an enforcement mechanism to slow down those who have little regard for safety.
