Los Alamos NewsLetter to be distributed this week

The biweekly hard-copy Los Alamos NewsLetter for the week of Jan. 31 is scheduled to be in mailboxes and newsstands this week.

On Page 1, Laboratory Director Pete Nanos thanks employees for their hard work and active collaboration throughout the resumption process in an all-employee talk. In his talk, Nanos also outlined the Lab's corporate objectives for the coming year.

Employees in Building 40 at Technical Area 3 have got the power. A successful electrical upgrade project brought building occupants the power and electricity they need to do their jobs. The Electrical Infrastructure and Safety Upgrades Project for that facility was recently completed, ahead of schedule and under budget. Read about this on Page 3. Also included on Page 3 is an article by the Laboratory's chief science officer, Tom Bowles.

Page 4 contains the last of a four-part series on the Laboratory's best recruiting practices. In the article, Beth McCormick of Staffing (HR-S) describes the Laboratory's Just-in-Time technical interview event series. On Page 5, readers can find a listing of recently issued patents.

Newsmakers, The Los Alamos NewsLetter's feedback feature called "So ... what do you think?" and more can be found on Pages 6 and 7.

Featured in this week's spotlight on Page 8 is Danny Lujan of Pit Disposition Science and Technology (NMT-15). Lujan has been refereeing middle-and high-school basketball games throughout Northern New Mexico for the past 27 years.

Employees can access the Los Alamos NewsLetter at http://www.lanl.gov/worldview/news/lanl_archive.shtml online or obtain additional copies at the bright blue distribution boxes throughout the Lab. Organizations receiving too many or not enough should call the mailroom at 7-4166. If your organization's administrator is not putting the newsletter in your mailboxes, please encourage him or her to do so.
