Public meeting Feb. 2 to discuss road improvement project

The state Department of Transportation is hosting a public meeting Feb. 2 in Los Alamos to solicit input on a improvement project planned for the intersection of Trinity Drive and DP Road.

The state agency plans to make improvements to the intersection and wants public comment on issues such as drainage improvements, construction of additional shoulders, bicycle paths, sidewalks and access through the intersection, according to Sixto Martinez, a project development engineer at the agency's District 5 office in Santa Fe. Other issues to be discussed include pedestrian and equestrian access and historical and cultural resources in the project area, he added.

The meeting is at 6 p.m., in the Topper Theater (D-wing) at Los Alamos High School on Diamond Drive. The state Department of Transportation will have maps of the proposed work area and personnel on hand to answer questions, said Martinez. The public can provide comments from 7 to 7:30 p.m.

Contingent on obtaining funding, Martinez said work on the intersection could begin in 2006.

For more information, contact Martinez at 827-5462, Phillip Gallegos of the state agency at 827-9532 or Shelly Herbst at (505) 898-8848. Written comments also can be sent to Herbst at Marron and Associates Inc., 7511 Fourth St., N.W., 87107 in Albuquerque.
