About two dozen parking spaces west of the Nicholas Metropolis Center for Modeling and Simulation at Technical Area 3 won't be available for employee parking beginning this week because of some planned utility work at the center.
Until about July, and weather permitting, M.S. Rich Construction of Albuquerque will be utilizing the parking lot west of the Metropolis Center fronting Bikini Atoll Road and across from the SM-30 Warehouse while electrical gear and mechanical equipment to cool the gear for a planned new supercomputer platform at the Metropolis center is installed, explained Phil Sena of Operations, Maintenance and Support (CCN-18). The contractor will work four 10-hour days with no work planned on Fridays, Sena added.
Emergency access and regular facility deliveries won't be impacted by the construction. A Protection Technology Los Alamos security officer will be posted at the security station (Post 327) from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday for construction purposes only. Delivery access will need to be coordinated with Laboratory groups within the facility as is normally done, and deliveries to the nearby SM-30 Warehouse shouldn't be affected by the project.
Alternative parking is available in the parking structure just south of the SM-30 Warehouse.
