Comment period extended to Jan. 21 on Laboratory contract RFP

Jan. 21 is the new deadline to submit comments to the Department of Energy on the draft request for proposal for management and operation of the Laboratory. The comment period was extended by the National Nuclear Security Administration.

The draft RFP seeks interested parties with the capability "to manage world-class science and achieve excellent operations and management performance." The draft request for proposals can be found at http://www.doeal.gov/lanlcontractrecompete/DraftRFP.htm online.

Questions related to the draft request for proposals should be forwarded to the National Nuclear Security
Administration's Source Evaluation Board contracting officer at LANLRecompeteHelp@doeal.gov by electronic mail.

"The Los Alamos community has taken a great interest recently in this competition and the SEB had received a significant number of requests for an extension," said Tyler Przybylek, chairman of the Los Alamos Source Evaluation Board (SEB). "The SEB chose a two week extension in order to permit interested parties to have an enhanced opportunity to comment without impacting the current schedule for contract award."

Przybylek said that the SEB also is forming a Benefits Advisory Panel that will advise the SEB on pension and benefits matters, as necessary, and will be available to the government's contracting officer during the transition period when the actual pension and benefit terms and conditions will be negotiated for the new contract. The panel will consist of experts from the Department of Energy, its actuarial adviser and a law firm specializing in these matters.

The Laboratory has been operated by the University of California since its Manhattan Era inception in 1943.
