HSR-2 offers tips for flu season

Help prevent spread of illness

Earlier this year, most employees did not receive flu shots because of an expected vaccine shortage. Occupational Medicine (HSR-2) is exploring the options of obtaining some vaccine, but until they do, health care specialists remind Laboratory personnel about simple prevention techniques.

  • If sick, stay home. Staying home will help prevent others from catching your illness. It is not considered good work ethic to spread germs.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Wash hands frequently or use hand sanitizers. This will help protect you from germs.
  • Cover mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing and sneezing.
  • Avoid touching the eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Get adequate sleep, manage stress, drink plenty of fluids and eat a well-balanced diet.

For more information, go to http://www.cdc.gov/flu or www.webmd.com online.
