Memo addresses employee conduct, upcoming contract competition

Laboratory Director G. Peter Nanos reminded the work force recently about employee conduct related to the upcoming contract competition.

Nanos said that employees should be aware of certain rules and policies that apply to situations that may arise during the competition, and that some employees will be approached by competitors requesting assistance or information, or seeking Laboratory employees to act as paid or unpaid consultants.

The director also reminded workers that Administrative Manual policies AM 716 and 717 address conflict of interest issues, and that Laboratory employees who are approached by and are interested in working with potential bidders other than the University of California must disclose the potential arrangement to their manager and obtain consent before doing so.

The Department of Energy announced last year that it would seek competitive bids for operation of the Laboratory. The University of California has operated the Lab since its Manhattan Era beginning in 1943. Its contract expires Sept. 30, 2005.
