UC regents to discuss national lab contract competitionsRegents of the University of California are meeting in Los Angeles this week and one item scheduled to be discussed is the status of the contract competitions for management of Department of Energy national laboratories. The Laboratory has been operated by the university since its Manhattan Project founding in 1943. The current contract to operate Los Alamos expires Sept. 30, 2005. The regents are meeting Wednesday and Thursday in Covel Commons on the UC, Los Angeles campus. The regents are scheduled to discuss the status of the competition at 11:30 a.m., Mountain Standard Time on Thursday. New Mexico governor and former DOE Secretary Bill Richardson is scheduled to speak to the regents at 11 a.m., (MST) Wednesday. Other items scheduled on the agenda include a presentation on future directions of student academic preparation programs. The regents also will consider action on a multi-ethnic designation on the undergraduate admissions application.
