Briefing on laser incident set for Wednesday

The Laboratory work force can learn more about the July laser incident that led in part to the suspension of operations at a briefing scheduled for 11 a.m., Wednesday in the Administration Building Auditorium at Technical Area 3.

The briefing is unclassified and open to badge holders who can enter the Administration Building. It also can be viewed on the second floor of the J. Robert Oppenheimer Study nearby. The briefing also can be viewed on LABNET Channel 9 and on desktop computers using Real Media Stream and IPTV technology.

Fred Tarantino, principal associate director for the nuclear weapons program, will lead the briefing.

A student researcher was injured in the July 14 incident; two days later Laboratory Director G. Peter Nanos ordered a suspension of operations while all Laboratory personnel completed safety and security training. All risk-level one operations, nearly 90 percent of risk-level two operations and about one-third of risk-level three operations have resumed normal work.

For more information, about the laser incident see the Oct. 27 Daily Newsbulletin.
