Los Alamos honors nation's veterans

Lab has more than 1,000 veterans

The Laboratory honored the nation's veterans on Wednesday with a talk and ceremonies at the Otowi Building at Technical Area 3. Acting Deputy Laboratory Director Don Cobb thanked all veterans working at Los Alamos, and veterans who have served the country. He then introduced John Garcia, second right, cabinet secretary of the New Mexico Department of Veterans' Services, who delivered the keynote address. Garcia noted that more 40 million veterans have defended the country over numerous conflicts; 26 million are alive today and more than one million have died in combat. Garcia later lead a workshop for benefits in the Physics Building Auditorium. Standing next to Garcia is Allyn Pratt of the Risk Reduction and Environmental Stewardship (RRES) Division, chair of the Lab's Veterans Committee, which co-sponsored the activities.
