Work on Pajarito Road near Otowi Building begins Monday

A small stretch of Pajarito Road near the intersection with West Jemez Road will be narrowed to vehicle traffic beginning Monday (Nov. 1) because of an electrical line installation. The work is expected to be completed in about three weeks, weather permitting.

The new electrical duct bank is being installed from the southwest corner of the intersection of Pajarito and West Jemez roads extending south for about 200 feet on Pajarito Road. The work is occurring in the southbound lane of this stretch of Pajarito Road, said Ed Artiglia of Deployed Services (PM-DS). The electrical duct bank is needed to provide additional electrical power to the new National Security Sciences Building under construction at Technical Area 3.

An existing badge checkpoint station now on Pajarito Road will be temporarily relocated and all vehicle traffic will be diverted onto the existing northbound lane of this stretch of Pajarito Road, Artiglia said. However, Laboratory workers will still need to present their badge to PTLA personnel, he said, adding that the parking lot west of the Otowi Building will remain open and vehicles will continue to be able to turn left and right from Pajarito Road onto West Jemez Road.

Signs and other traffic detours will be in place to alert motorists to the construction.
