Leslie Hansen of Ecology (RRES-ECO) holds a box turtle as Miranda Shaymayme and Tristan Critzer examine it at a San Ildefonso Day School visit to the Canyon School complex last week. Hansen said RRES-ECO uses the box turtle to teach students about various types of reptiles, of which the turtle is but one. The visit was part of the Laboratory's educational outreach program and was arranged by the Tribal Relations team in the Government Relations (GRO) Office. |
Cherie Goodenough of Hydrodynamics (DX-3) uses glass jars and water to teach San Ildefonso Day School students Isaiah Viarrial, left, and Edward Valdez about surface tension. By using mesh of differing hole sizes, the students learned that they could keep water in an inverted glass jar, with and without the mesh, and with a steady hand.
