NNSA helping to secure nation's borders

The National Nuclear Security Administration is helping address border security issues with its new Commodity Identification Training (CIT) curriculum. The program will help educate and train customs inspectors and border enforcement personnel from around the world in techniques of detection and interdiction.

By the end of November, border and customs inspectors in 11 countries will have completed the training, according to a NNSA news release.

"Our goal is to help partner countries incorporate [weapons of mass destruction] training programs for customs inspectors, investigators, border guards and other key personnel, said NNSA Administrator Linton F. Brooks. "NNSA initiates these partnerships with our experts at the national laboratories with the ultimate goal of preventing dangerous nuclear material from falling into the hands of terrorists."
