October Research Library newsletter now online

The October issue of the Research Library (STB-RL) newsletter is now online. The newsletter contains information about services, resources and programs offered by the library, which is located in the J. Robert Oppenheimer Study Center at Technical Area 3.

Selected Elsevier e-books are now available on desktop computers through STB-RL's Science Direct Web site. The books cover a broad range of topics, including business, management and economics, chemistry and life sciences.

Working safely is paramount at the Laboratory, and the Research Library has access to full-text articles and specific safety journals using its SearchPlus search tool. Science Server also provides indexing and access to "Chemical Health and Safety" and "Fire Safety Journal" as well as other safety articles and publications.

The Research Library now has online editions of Nature research journals. The articles are available as pdf files (Adobe Acrobat Reader required) or in HTML versions of abstracts with reference lists. The Research Library also has a Labwide license for online access to Nature Methods, a new journal from Nature. Nature Methods is a forum for the dissemination of novel research methods for life scientists and chemists.

Visitors from the Max Planck Society recently came to Los Alamos to look at STB-RL's Library Without Walls project. Read about the visit in this month's newsletter.

New electronic journals available from the library this month include among others, the Journal of Cellular Plastics, Landslides, an Earth and environmental sciences trade publication, Quarterly Journal of the Belgian, French and Italian Operations Research societies, Journal of Public Health, Acta Arithmetica, the Bulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Mathematics and Plasma Processes and Polymers.

The library also has more than 1.5 million unclassified technical reports in electronic, paper or microfiche formats. Library staff can help Lab personnel find reports.

The Research Library, including the lower level, is open to all Laboratory badge holders 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Lab workers can call 7-7840 during business hours to verify that they are registered in the Research Library badge reader.
