Hansen memorial service on SaturdayA memorial service for Laboratory retiree Gordon E. Hansen, will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday in Fuller Lodge in Los Alamos. Hansen died on March 19. Hansen joined the Laboratory in December of 1949 and was a pioneer in the creation of multigroup neutron cross-section sets for digital computer calculations of nuclear criticality. He contributed to the understanding of neutron physics and interactions of neutrons with nuclei. He was a consultant to various national advisory committees, including the Department of Energy's Fission Theory Committee, and was a delegate to the second International Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy in Geneva, Switzerland in 1958. Hansen retired from the Laboratory in 1990. He was a Laboratory Fellow, and a Fellow of the American Nuclear Society and of the American Physics Society.
