Laboratory/UC announce '05 health-care premiums

The Laboratory on Tuesday announced its 2005 health-care premiums for University of California Lab employees. The new monthly premiums are detailed in a all-employee memo from Richard Marquez, associate director for administration (ADA).

In the memo, Marquez noted that University of California employees who have chosen United Healthcare's Select EPO plan will see their 2005 monthly premiums rise between $6 and $18. The new health-care premiums will appear in personnel paychecks Dec. 23. Marquez also noted that the University of California contributed some $9 million, which he said helped keep premium increases below national averages.

United Healthcare, the Lab's health-care provider, and Benefits and Employment Services (HR-B) are conducting a series of presentations in early November to assist employees and retirees who have questions about the plan (see sidebar). Open enrollment this year is Nov. 1 through 30. The University of California was scheduled to mail open enrollment information to UC Lab employees at their homes. The cover of the mailing says "Open Enrollment for 2005" and includes a Web address. Open enrollment is again being conducted online for active employees and this year, for retirees.

For information on 2005 health-care premiums, see the all-employee memo from Marquez (Adobe Acrobat Reader required).
