Proposals due today under Lab-New Mexico Tech memorandum of understanding

The Laboratory and the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology are accepting proposals for research in the areas of the Magdalena Ridge Observatory, astronomy/astrophysics, earth sciences (including geophysics, hydrology and atmospheric physics), materials and energetic materials under the auspices of a new joint Science and Technology Laboratory.

The proposal submission deadline is 5 p.m. today. Proposals should be submitted electronically to Stephany Moore in the New Mexico Tech Research Service Office at smoore@admin.nmt.edu by electronic mail.

The Laboratory and New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology signed a memorandum of understanding earlier this year. The MOU provides opportunities for research, education, recruiting and retention, and also created a Joint Science and Technology Laboratory, a virtual laboratory within which strategic partnerships will be established and directed. These strategic partnerships "will allow the Laboratory and New Mexico Tech to build synergistically on areas of mutual interest that will advance New Mexico Tech's academic mission and are strategically significant to the Laboratory," according to the call for proposals.

A joint Science and Technology Laboratory management committee will review proposals and make recommendations to an executive committee.

For more information, read the master management memo or contact Debbie Wilke of the Science and Technology Base Programs (STB) Office at 7-7824 or write to dwilke@lanl.gov by electronic mail. To read about the call for research proposals, click here (Adobe Acrobat Reader required).
