Bridge construction to close U.S. 84-285

U.S. 84-285 at Tano Road and Circle Drive will close for short intervals late tonight and early Tuesday as construction continues on the highway.

The contractor building a road that will connect Circle Drive and Tano Road needs to close U.S. 84-285 while steel trusses are moved into place for the overpass, said Patti Jones, a spokesperson for the state Department of Transportation. The work started last week, but unforeseen delays prompted the additional closure this evening, Jones said.

Beginning about 10 this evening and continuing through 5 a.m. Tuesday, U.S. 84-285 will be closed in 30-minute intervals in both directions while the steel is moved into place, Jones explained. Signs and other traffic control devices will be in place to alert motorists to the ongoing work.

Construction of the overpass is part of a $75-million-dollar rebuild of U.S. 84-285 between Santa Fe and Pojoaque. The work is scheduled to be substantially completed by the end of the year.

FNF Construction Co. of Tucson, Ariz., is the general contractor for the project. More than 2,000 Laboratory workers who live in Santa Fe County and points south use U.S. 84-285 to get to and from work.

The state agency has established a project office at 810 West San Mateo, Suite 200A in Santa Fe. Information on the project is available at this office or at http://www.us84-285.com/index.shtml online.
