Zozobra to displace park and ride users this week

Old Man Gloom usually comes out on the losing end of the battle. But for three days this week the giant wood and paper puppet is king of the hill.

Because of the annual burning of Zozobra on Thursday, Laboratory personnel who park at Fort Marcy Ball Park on Murales Road at Old Taos Highway in Santa Fe and commute to work on a All Aboard America bus will have to park elsewhere.

On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Lab workers should park either at the state Department of Transportation's headquarters building on Cerrillos Road (south side of building near Alta Vista Street), or at the south side park-and-ride lot near Jaguar Drive and south Cerrillos Road, said Beverly Friedman, a department spokesperson.

"Some delays may be experienced because of this change in schedule, but every effort will be made to have park-and-ride buses arrive on time," said Friedman.

The parking lot at Fort Marcy Ball Park will be available for use again on Monday, Sept. 13.

The commuter bus service provides transportation between Los Alamos, Española, Santa Fe and Albuquerque. Rider fares are $2 each way between Los Alamos, Española and Santa Fe, and $4 each way between Los Alamos and Albuquerque.

All Aboard America provides the commuter bus service on contract for the state road agency.

The buses drop off and pick up Lab workers at East Jemez Road and Diamond Drive near Technical Area 3 and on Central Avenue near 20th Street downtown.
