Memos update work force on suspension of operations status

Master management memos from the week of Aug. 9 pertaining to the Laboratory's suspension of work status are summarized below. On Tuesdays during the suspension of operations period, the Daily Newsbulletin will highlight the memos to update the Laboratory population on the status of Laboratory operating conditions.

Laboratory Director G. Peter Nanos on July 16 ordered a suspension of all Laboratory work operations to allow the work force to reaffirm its commitment to safety and security and compliance with all policies and procedures.

MM1903/ASS2074: Suspect Valves (pdf) (8/9/04)
An employee of Hunt Valve Co. was charged with conspiracy and fraud in connection with providing non-conforming valves and materially false certifications. Because the potential safety significance of non-conforming valves and the knowledge that some Department of Energy sites have such valves, the DOE secretary has directed all DOE contractors to determine if any of these non-conforming valves are in use or inventory. The memo gives requirements on where and when to report reviews and investigations.

MM1904/ADS2075: LANL Wall-To-Wall Inventory (pdf) (8/9/04)
The Lab's wall-to-wall inventory of accountable CREM and accountable, classified documents began its internal validation process. Materials have been sent to classified matter custodians, division security officers and directorate senior security advisers.

MM1906/ADS2077: Gas Plant Function Realigned (pdf) (8/10/04)
The Supply Chain Management (SUP) Division is realigning and expanding the packaging and transportation functions to include oversight of the Gas Plant Facility. As of Aug. 9, the Gas Plant Facility will transition from the Materials Management (SUP-3) to HazMat Packaging and Transportation (SUP-5).
