Otowi Building cafeteria reopens Monday

No hot food service

The cafeteria in the Otowi Building at Technical Area 3 reopens at 6:30 Monday morning with limited service. The cafeteria system has been closed since July 16 when Laboratory Director G. Peter Nanos imposed a suspension of all work operations while the work force recommits to safety, security and compliance with Laboratory procedures.

Service is limited to pre-packaged foods, cold items, beverages and salads. ARAMARK Corp. and Facilities and Waste Operations (FWO) Division are working to resolve outstanding issues related to serving hot food items.

"On behalf of the ARAMARK staff, we're looking forward to serving the Laboratory community," said George Esquivel, food service director for ARAMARK Corp., which operates the cafeterias in the Otowi Building and at Technical Areas 53 and 55. The latter two cafeterias have not been cleared to resume service and remain closed, said Esquivel.

Food and beverages available for purchase include coffee and a continental breakfast in the morning, said Esquivel. Lunch will include packaged deli sandwiches, salads, desserts, bagged chips located at the Grab and Go area; a cold wrap at the Wrap station; Caesar salads at the Crisp station; complete salad bar items; and made to order deli sandwiches at the Deli station.

The Freshens sweet shop also will be open on Monday and will have smoothies, blasts and espresso drinks, fountain and bottled beverages available for purchase.

The Otowi Cafeteria is open from 6:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Freshens sweet shop is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday.
