Bowles: students should be involved in re-start of LaboratoryLaboratory organizations should involve students in processes for resuming normal operations, the Lab's chief science officer said. "While many students are involved in restart of experimental activities, a number are not," Bowles said in a memo to leaders. "There are a number of ways in which we can productively engage the students in safety activities during the stand-down," he said. Bowles suggested having students write "white papers" that address safety issues organizations have faced and how the Laboratory can learn from them. He also encouraged organizations to involve students in dry-runs of restart activities; that students watch safety videos, some of which are available online; and that organizations hold division-wide safety symposiums to discuss concerns. Lab organizations interested in coordinating such activities for students should call Trish Smith in the Chief Science Office at 5-4225 or write to trish@lanl.gov by electronic mail by the end of the work day today.
