July Research Library newsletter now online

The July issue of the Research Library (STB-RL) newsletter is now online. The newsletter contains information about services, resources and programs offered by the library, which is located in the J. Robert Oppenheimer Study Center at Technical Area 3.

In this month's issue, learn about how STB-RL is transfering ownership of the classified electronic databases and full-text content to Information, Records and Media Services (IM-9), which is planning to migrate the information in the current databases to their classified information environment and to make the content available to the desktop using the Secure Desktop on Demand system.

The Research Library wants to hear from Laboratory personnel on what books to obtain. Write to library@lanl.gov by electronic mail with suggestions. See this month's STB-RL newsletter for more information.

STB-RL's Herbert Van de Sompel, leader for the Digital Library Research and Prototyping team, has been named to the new Advisory Board for xrefer. The board includes leaders from the library, technology and academic communities and provides guidance in the continuing development of the xreferplus online reference service. xrefer delivers technology-enhanced online reference services to libraries and their users worldwide.

New electronic journals available from the library this month include among others, Cognitive Processing, Internet Mathematics, Clays and Clay Minerals, Radiation Protection Dosimetry (back files from 1981 to present), Bauphysik, Notre Dame Journal of Formal Logic, Bulletin of the Belgian Mathematical Society and the Journal of Applied Mathematics.

Students working at Los Alamos this summer got a first-hand look at what STB-RL has to offer. Read about the library-hosted student breakfast and see some photos from the event in this issue.

The Research Library, including the lower level, is open to all Laboratory badge holders 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Lab workers can call 7-7840 during business hours to verify that they are registered in the STB-RL badge reader.
