Friday, July 2, 2004 Recent rains prompt officials to open most Santa Fe National forest areasJust in time for the July 4 holiday, the Santa Fe National Forest is reopening most of its forest areas. Recent rains have decreased the fire danger, prompting the decision to reopen the forests, according to a news release. But forest users are urged to continue to use caution and some restrictions remain in place, including a total prohibition of fireworks on forest system lands. The forest service will re-evaluate its decision on which forest areas remain closed after the holiday, said Paul Orozco, a fire management officer for the Santa Fe National Forest.
