Guard post changes in place this weekend

There will be some changes in the Protection Technology Los Alamos (PTLA) Security Condition (SECON) post operations starting Friday. The changes are effective at 3 p.m., on Friday, and continue through 4 a.m. Tuesday, July 6.

The changes are as follows:

  • SECON Post 9 located near West Jemez Road and Bikini Atoll Road at Technical Area 3 will not be staffed and access will be blocked.
  • SECON Post 17 on Pajarito Road, near TA-59 will not be staffed but lanes will be open.
  • SECON Post 1 on Pajarito Road, near the southwest corner of TA-39 (Shops Building) will not be staffed but the swing gates will be open.
  • A temporary SECON post will be established on Diamond Drive near the Laboratory Data Communications Center (LDCC) at TA-3. All access control requirements currently in effect will be the same for access beyond this temporary SECON post.

"There has been no security level change on a federal or local basis," said Mike Grimler of Security Support (S-5).

"The Protective Force will continue patrols during the holiday weekend," said Unica Gonzales of Security Integration (S-2). "All employees should be aware that vehicles anywhere on site might be stopped and inspected. If stopped for an inspection your cooperation is appreciated."
