Panel discussion Monday culminates Gay Pride Month at Lab

A final event as part of the Laboratory's observance of Gay Pride Month is a panel discussion at noon, Monday at the Canyon School Complex, Room 160. Panelists are current or former Laboratory employees who have family members who are "gay."

Panelists will discuss their own experiences in "coming out" and how they dealt with the news that their family members were lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people. Tentatively on the panel will be the wife of a gay man, mother of a lesbian, father of a transgender son, daughter of a gay man and father of a gay son.

The panel discussion is open to all Laboratory workers. It is aligned with the Laboratory's new Code of Ethics and Institutional Values, which call for teamwork and mutual respect.

The panel discussion is part of the Diversity Office's "Something to Think About" diversity curriculum. Gay Pride Month is sponsored by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex Diversity Working Group (LGBTI DWG), the Diversity Affirmative Action Board and DVO.

Pride on the Plaza also will be held in Santa Fe on Saturday. Co-sponsored by the LGBTI Diversity Working Group, Pride on the Plaza will feature a recruitment booth that provides information on the Laboratory as an employer. For more information on the plaza event, go to http://www.santafehra.org/Gay%20Pride%20Plaza.html online.

For more information about Gay Pride Month go to the Diversity Office Web site at http://www.lanl.gov/orgs/dvo/ online.
