On June 18, Laboratory management was notified of a situation involving a set of keys under the control of Protection Technology Los Alamos at the Los Alamos Critical Experiments Facility at Technical Area 18.
Upon investigation, Laboratory management learned that protective force personnel did not carry out a standard shift-change inventory of so-called "escort keys" resulting in the keys being missing for two shift changes, a total of 16 hours. The keys were subsequently found following an extensive search and after standard procedures to fully protect TA-18 were carried out. At no time did anyone have unauthorized access to any facilities, information or materials at TA-18. Laboratory management intends to hold its subcontractor fully accountable for this event.
