Oppenheimer photo exhibition at museum through Sunday

In commemoration of the centennial year of the birth of Los Alamos' first director, J. Robert Oppenheimer, the Bradbury Science Museum has on display an exhibit of photographs of Oppenheimer. The traveling exhibit entitled "J. Robert Oppenheimer, 1904-1967: Photographs From His Life," is on display at the museum through Sunday.

The J. Robert Oppenheimer Memorial Committee is sponsoring the traveling photographic exhibit. Prior to the Bradbury Science Museum, it was on display at the Mesa Public Library in Los Alamos. The show will move to the Oñate Center in Española July 2-22 and to the Santa Fe Community College Sept. 9 through Oct. 14. The college has scheduled an opening reception on Sept. 23.

Curated by members of the Oppenheimer Committee, the display includes more than 50 photos gathered from the collections of the Robert and Frank Oppenheimer families, the archives of the University of California Berkeley's Bancroft library, Harvard University, Princeton University, the Institute for Advanced Study and the Laboratory.

The photographic exhibit at the museum runs concurrently to a symposium on Oppenheimer this weekend in Los Alamos. The Los Alamos Historical Society, a Laboratory sanctioned organization, is co-sponsoring the symposium in Fuller Lodge and the Duane Smith Auditorium at Los Alamos High School. For more information on the symposium, see the June 18 Daily Newsbulletin.

There is no fee to see the exhibit or admission into the museum. The Bradbury Science Museum is part of the Public Affairs Office. It is located at 15th Street and Central Avenue in Los Alamos. Museum hours, apart from the special events listed above, are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday and 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
